President Obama Expands Parental Leave for Federal Employees
January 16, 2015
On Thursday, President Obama signed a presidential memorandum directing federal agencies to advance up to six weeks of paid sick leave to federal employees with a new child, employees caring for ill family members, and other sick leave-eligible uses. Accompanying the signed memorandum, President Obama has asked Congress to pass legislation aimed at providing federal employees six weeks of paid administrative leave for the birth, adoption, or foster placement of a child. NFFE strongly supports Congressman Connolly’s bill to provide federal employees a well-earned and much-needed 3.8 percent pay adjustment in 2016. In the past two years, Congress and the President have enacted woefully insufficient one percent pay adjustments that were preceded by three years of pay freezes. In the last five years, federal employees have lost a significant amount of buying power due to pay adjustments failing to keep up with basic inflation. (Full Release)
