Last week in Hollywood, Maryland, 39 NFFE/IAM members from across the country received state-of-the-art training at the William W. Winpisinger Education & Technology Center as part of the Federal Basic course administered by NFFE and IAM staff.

The Winpisinger Center hosts the six-day Federal Basic class four times annually, and consistently fills the class with NFFE and IAM’s newest federal sector Union representatives who receive training in lobbying, organizing & recruitment, Workers Compensation (OWCP), the Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA), prohibited personnel practices, the Hatch Act, grievances & arbitrations, strategic planning, communications, collective bargaining, and more.

“We had a great week getting NFFE’s newest activists trained up on the essentials of federal Union representation,” said NFFE National Secretary/Treasurer Dave Stamey about the Federal Basic class held on February 6-10, 2017.  “Many of the participants in the Federal Basic class represent the next generation of leadership in our Union, and it is so uplifting to see the new energy and talent that comes through this class. It makes me feel very optimistic about the future of our Union.”

The IAM’s Winpisinger Center, where the Federal Basic class is taught, is a one-of-a-kind Union-owned and -operated facility where much of NFFE‘s Union representation training is conducted. The IAM is the only Union in North American with a facility dedicated full time to the education of its members.  In fact, since opening in 1981, more than 60,000 students have attended Winpisinger Center programs.  No other Union comes close to matching that record.  It is that dedication to education that helps give NFFE, an affiliate of the IAM, the best trained membership in the labor movement, and consequently, the best Union representation in the business.

“NFFE-IAM members are very fortunate to have access to the best training in the labor movement through the William W. Winpisinger Center,” said Stamey. “No other Union is able to make the same kind of investment in its members that we can because of the Center. Every class here is top notch. This school is invaluable to everything we do as a Union.”

The next Federal Basic class at the Winpisinger Center will be held June 25-30, 2017.
