June 14, 2018 marked the 70th anniversary of the National Federation of Federal Employees Local 1031. Local 1031 is located on Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The local represents federal civilian employees who work for the Department of the Air Force.

The union was formed after the end of World War II when many veterans came home from the war and sought employment with the federal government. These returned veterans quickly realized they needed to have a voice in the workplace and so FL 1031 was chartered.

Mike Davis, president of FL 1031, said, “I think it would be safe to say this was the first NFFE local chartered in the United States Air Force which was formed in 1947.”

The 70th anniversary celebration of NFFE Local 1031 shows just how much workers needed representation then as they do now.

Davis continues, “June 14, 1948 will be remembered as a time when labor spoke up with one voice to be recognized. Be proud of our local and all it has accomplished since that time!”

Federal employees are the backbone of the Alamogordo community contributing millions to the local economy.

Congratulations NFFE FL 1031 on 70 years of dedicated union service! This day demonstrates the power of solidarity to take the Labor Movement into another 70 years and beyond!
