The National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) is pleased to announce that one of our valued members, Mike Gropman, was the recent recipient of the Sturdivant Award, a prestigious honor in the labor community.
The Sturdivant Award began in 1998, shortly after the passing of American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) member John Sturdivant. Sturdivant was one of the founding members of Virginia’s 11th Congressional District Democratic Committee, who created the award to honor a Democrat from the community who is active in the labor community.
The award is traditionally kept secret, and dedicated to those who are selfless and unassuming in the fight for organized labor. It is a unique honor, as Virginia’s 11th District is the only one with an award dedicated to someone in labor. This year, the clear choice for the Sturdivant Award was Mike Gropman, who is known for putting in countless hours of work for local Democrats and the Northern Virginia Labor Federation.
“Here at NFFE, we want to recognize and appreciate the great accomplishments that our members have done for their communities,” said NFFE National President Randy Erwin. “Mr. Gropman embodies the true spirit of organized labor: helping out your colleagues and putting in selfless work to improve the quality of life for everyone. For that, we must thank him. Mike truly represents the high standards that NFFE tries to uphold.”
