This week, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM) is celebrating National Nurses Week, which begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday.

NFFE is proud to represent thousands of nurses who serve their communities through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Department of Defense (DoD), and Indian Health Service (IHS). These dedicated professionals care for our nation’s veterans, active military, and our diverse native populations every day, providing an invaluable service to the American people.

This year, it is important that we recognize the threats that nurses working at federal agencies are facing. The Trump Administration has unilaterally taken away these nurses’ right to form and join a union, while cutting funding for the agencies they work for and dismantling critical programs.

“I am very proud of the NFFE-IAM members who serve as nurses every day, but especially this week,” said NFFE National President Randy Erwin. “Many of these nurses work intense hours under stressful conditions, and for less pay than they would earn in the private sector. But their dedication to veterans, our troops, and supporting their communities is their top priority. Despite the President threatening their rights and attempting to diminish their value, the American people understand the importance of nurses in the federal government and appreciate the essential service they provide. Thank you, nurses, for all that you do every day!”
