Doug Allen, NFFE Local 2189 member, was recognized in an employee spotlight for “Team Member Tuesday” in his role of chief steward at the Red River Army Depot in Bowie County, Texas.

An announcement shared to Facebook on Jan. 21st said, “Today, we shine the spotlight on Doug Allen who has been a part of #TeamRedRiver for over 17 years! Doug is a heavy mobile equipment repairer who currently serves as the chief steward of NFFE Local 2189. He has several family members who are serving or who have served in the military including his daughter, stepfather, brother, brother-in-law, nephew and father-in-law.”

Allen bridges the gap between team and management in his role as the chief steward. And, he has shown outstanding initiative in his role.

“I take satisfaction in knowing that what I do every day helps our workers complete their mission for the Warfighter,” Allen said. “I take great pride in advocating for the rights and well-being of my fellow workers and ensuring that their voices are heard. I also know that the relationships we’ve built with both the workers on the shop floor and management has helped us improve communication and mutual respect. It is very rewarding seeing these types of improvements that lead to positive changes.”

Chris Green, former president of NFFE Local 2189 and current National Business Representative and Organizer for the Southern region, stated that this is an unprecedented but well-deserved employee spotlight that acknowledges the hard work of NFFE members at the Red River Army Depot.

“That’s my local – that’s where I came from and where I was president for 4 years, and that (NFFE) local works very well. With everything going on, that command group is acknowledging that the (NFFE) union is there for the depot,” Green said.
