Earlier this week, National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM) President Randy Erwin addressed over 400 attendees at the 2025 IAM Legislative Conference, one of the strongest turnouts in recent history. This year’s event focused on defending workers’ rights, especially employees in the federal sector.
President Erwin began his remarks with recognizing IAM leadership for their ardent support of NFFE and federal workers, which was exemplified this week by a rally at Union Station in Washington, DC.
“Federal employees across the board are doing incredible work for the American people,” Erwin said. “They keep our military ready, care for our veterans, maintain our homeland security, ensure clean air, clean water, safe air travel – essential services for the American people. In many ways, they are the backbone of this country, and we need to support them – you guys are, and I can’t thank you enough.”
President Erwin also slammed the Trump Administration for attacking federal workers and cutting public services in order to help offset tax cuts for the wealthy.
“The Trump Administration is destroying public services in this country,” continued Erwin. “They claim to be making government more efficient – that is a complete joke. As they are trying to make all these unnecessary cuts of essential services, they are also trying to push through a 4.5 trillion dollar tax cut that almost exclusively benefits only the filthy rich. The annual cost of that is bigger than the entire federal payroll put together. They are trying to pay for a billionaires’ tax cut on the backs of hard working, middle class Americans.”
The most significant issue for NFFE-IAM members this year in meeting with lawmakers on Capitol Hill was legislation to negate President Trump’s executive order stripping over one million federal workers of their Constitutional right to a form and join union.
Write to your representatives today to tell them to cosponsor the bipartisan Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550).
“It’s a direct assault on working people and it’s despicable, but they can pull all the crap they want – they can sign executive orders, they can mess with us – but we are not going anywhere. NFFE has been around 107 years and we’re resilient. Our people are more fired up about being in a union than they ever have, and the work that we have to do to protect the federal workforce has never been so important.”
