This afternoon National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) National President Randy Erwin addressed the crowd gathered at a rally held outside the Veterans Affairs Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The rally was organized by veterans affairs committee members to band together with members of Congress and prominent union leaders to fight back against the Trump administration’s harmful policies aimed at federal workers which would directly affect America’s veterans; other speakers at the rally included Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Sen. Richard Blumenthal and American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) President Everett Kelley.
“These workers amaze me everyday with their commitment to caring for the American veteran,” Erwin said. “To all the VA employees out there – thank you for your service everyday. The American people need to know one thing: the Trump administration’s are hostile to veterans. In the first three weeks of this administration, Trump and Musk have been ruthless in their attacks on federal employees. Insulting them, threatening them and intimidating them to resign or face being fired. They have claimed to be doing these things in the name of ‘efficiency’, but anyone with any sense can see that their actions have nothing to do with efficiency – they are simply breaking our government.”
“Let’s not forget that we make a solemn promise to every man and woman who wears the uniform that they are going to be cared for when their service is complete – but if we lose 75% of the VA’s workforce then we will no longer be able to make good on that promise. When we needed them to defend our freedoms, they were there. But now that they need us to make good on our promise to care for them, we won’t be there. That is outrageous, that cannot happen, we simply cannot allow that to happen in this country.”
