White House Launches 2nd Annual President’s SAVE Award; Submit Your Ideas Today!
Today, the White House announced the launch of its second annual President’s SAVE Award, a contest that calls on federal employees to submit their ideas for saving money and improving performance at their agencies. The winner of this year’s contest will be rewarded with a trip to the White House to personally brief President Obama on their idea.
Last year, the White House Office of Management and Budget received more than 38,000 ideas on how to make government more efficient and effective. Many of these ideas later became part of the President’s budget, saving the American taxpayer millions of dollars and improving service.
Last year’s winner, Nancy Fichtner from the Colorado VA Medical Center, recommended a more efficient method for distributing medication to its patients, an idea that will save the Department of Veterans Affairs nearly $20 million over the next 5 years. Another finalist, working at the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia, suggested streamlining the way that campground fees are processed, an idea that will save valuable time and money at national forests across the country.
“This goes to show how powerful the ideas of rank and file federal employees can be,” said NFFE National President William R. Dougan. “You work on the front lines providing goods and services to the American people every day. I encourage every NFFE member to submit their ideas to help our government and our nation prosper.”
