Washington, D.C. – The National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) proudly endorses Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw to represent Virginia’s 11th Congressional District in the upcoming special election to fill the seat of the late Rep. Gerry Connolly. A lifelong Northern Virginian, Walkinshaw served as Connolly’s Chief of Staff for over a decade and has represented the Braddock District on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors since 2019.
Before his passing, Rep. Connolly endorsed Walkinshaw, writing:
“James brings unmatched experience, a depth of knowledge about federal issues, and a steadfast commitment to progressive values. When I took office in 2009, appointing him Chief of Staff was one of the best decisions I made.”
The Democratic primary will be held on Saturday, June 28. Due to the compressed timeline, there will be limited polling locations and no vote-by-mail option; however, early voting is available from June 24 to 26 from 3 PM to 8 PM at the Fairfax County Government Center. With escalating political attacks on the federal workforce by former President Trump and his allies, this election is critical for all federal employees, contractors, and their families in the district.
“We are at a pivotal moment in our nation’s history,” said NFFE National President Randy Erwin. “We have a president who believes he is above the Constitution, presiding over a lawless administration intoxicated by unchecked power—while a Republican-controlled Congress stands idly by. That’s why NFFE is proud to support James Walkinshaw to carry forward the extraordinary legacy of Gerry Connolly.
“James knows the federal government inside and out,” Erwin continued. “He’s been on the front lines of every major battle affecting civil servants and the contractors who serve the American people. He’s ready to lead on day one—and to fight for the integrity of our government, the rights of public servants, and the rule of law.”
NFFE urges all voters in Virginia’s 11th District to plan to vote early on June 28. Information on polling places and early voting is available at https://www.cd11votes.com/voters.
