Washington, D.C. – Today, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM) is responding to the Trump-Musk Administration’s latest executive order that instructs federal agencies to comply with orders from the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to limit hiring of only Trump loyalists and to conduct large-scale Reductions in Force (RIF).
“If this executive order is carried out, experienced civil servants hired based on merit will be replaced with unqualified Trump-Musk loyalists,” said NFFE National President Randy Erwin. “Only one in four dismissed will be replaced, causing critical public services to be diminished or outright eliminated. Our veterans will not receive the healthcare they deserve. Our military strength and national security will be undermined. Wildfires will ravage our communities and public lands. Our aviation systems will become less safe. The quality of our food, water, and air will decline.”
“In this country, we have a highly skilled federal workforce because of merit systems principles and institutional knowledge. By replacing qualified, career civil servants with political cronies or costly contractors, the workforce will lose the ability to speak out against corruption and inefficiencies. The end result is a government that only works for big businesses and Trump-Musk donors, but is broken for the rest of us.”
“This Trump-Musk executive action has nothing to do with promoting efficiency or saving money for the American people – it is a blatant attempt to dismantle the civil service to eliminate oversight and provide tax cuts for the wealthy. A purge of the federal workforce will be a disaster for our country.”
