This week, elected NFFE delegates from around the country have descended on the Lake Buena Vista Palace outside of sunny Orlando, Fla. for NFFE’s 50th National Convention. Elected delegates have gathered to carry out the business of the Union—from electing our national officers to making changes to the union’s bylaws and participating in discussions with some of the leading voices in labor and government. This week is an exercise in democracy for delegates, voting on the leadership and direction of NFFE over the next four years.

On the first day of the convention, delegates heard from a variety of speakers, including: Sen. Kristen Gillibrand, Sen. Jon Tester, IAM Legislative Director Hasan Solomon, Union Veterans Council Executive Director Will Fischer, National Association of Government Employees (NAGE) President David Holway and a variety of other labor leaders.

As the day progressed, NFFE National Officers reported to delegates on the financial and membership standing of the Union—figures that demonstrate a Union well-positioned for strength and continued membership growth in the coming years. Delegates also heard reports from the Veterans Committee, Minority, Diversity and Inclusion (MDI) Committee and various convention standing committees.

As the day concluded, candidates for National Office were each offered five minutes to deliver their vision of the future to convention delegates. For a full list of candidates for National Office, click here.

On Tuesday, convention delegates will hear from various government and Union leaders as well as participate in panel discussions focused on growing Local membership and best practices for communicating with bargaining units.
