Washington, D.C. – Today, National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM) National President Randy Erwin rebukes President Trump’s executive order (EO), Exclusions from Federal Labor-Management Relations Programs, issued yesterday evening. The EO instructs 18 federal agencies to unlawfully and unilaterally end collective bargaining with federal unions.
“Make no mistake – this is the biggest assault on collective bargaining rights we have ever seen in this country,” said NFFE National President Randy Erwin. “More than one million federal workers will lose their constitutionally protected freedom to form and join a union if this executive order is implemented. Federal workers’ collective bargaining rights are protected by law. The President does not have the right to unilaterally eliminate them. Those rights don’t just disappear simply because the President finds them inconvenient.”
“The executive order issued by President Trump to gut federal collective bargaining rights is blatantly illegal and unconstitutional,” continued Erwin “NFFE and our allies will be challenging this executive action in court and we are confident the rule of law will be upheld in this country.”
“Let’s be honest about what this is all about,” concluded Erwin. “It is clear that this executive order is retaliation for federal unions standing up to the Trump Administration’s attacks on the civil service. This is yet another direct attack not only on federal employees, but also veterans, working families, and the very fabric of our democracy. We cannot allow President Trump to trample over workers’ rights, destroy the federal workforce, and decimate the critical services our members provide for the American people.”
