Today, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) is proud to announce that Matthew Brossard of NFFE Local 1650 will serve as the new Business Representative and Organizer (BR/Organizer) for NFFE’s Western Territory.

NFFE began looking to hire two Business Representatives/Organizers starting August 26, 2024 and interviewed several candidates over the course of the last several weeks. Brossard was offered the position last week, and he officially started his role at NFFE on Monday, November 18th.

With over 20 years in fire management and training, Brossard most recently served as the General Vice President of the NFFE Forest Service Council, as well as the President of Local 1650, which represents Forest Services employees in Southern California. In these roles, Brossard negotiated complex agreements that benefited his colleagues at Local 1650 and promoted a culture of growing the union. In fact, Local 1650 was NFFE’s fastest growing Local in calendar year 2023, and has continued very strong growth in recent months. Brossard has also traveled to Washington, DC on several occasions, bringing along fellow wildland firefighters to lobby on Capitol Hill.

“Matt Brossard has demonstrated his commitment to not only growing our union, but also his dedication to his peers as President of Local 1650,” said NFFE National President Randy Erwin. “He has proven himself to be an effective negotiator and has a strong track record as a union representative for his local. Matt has all the tools and experience to be successful as a Business Representative and Organizer, and I am really excited for our union to take another leap forward with him on staff.”

Brossard is originally from Moorpark, California and now lives in the Upland area with his wife and children. Brossard will fight for the union and work hard for his members.

“I am really looking forward to working with all the locals in the Western Region,” said Brossard. “It is really important to me to be able to find out the needs of our members at different agencies and how I can help them create change in their workplaces. As we have seen at Local 1650, when the union makes a positive impact for workers, folks want to join the union. I am excited for NFFE to grow and become even stronger in the coming years.”
