At the 49th NFFE National Convention in Portland, Oregon last year, delegates unanimously voted to create a new national committee to promote awareness of issues facing minorities in the federal workforce. In doing so, they etched into our union’s bylaws a commitment to equality and fair opportunity.

Now, having received final approval of our new bylaws from the IAM International Headquarters, we are officially ready to begin soliciting members for this groundbreaking committee. The strength of this committee will be its ability to deliver good information and resources for federal employees from all walks of life. To deliver on this mission, we are looking for a diverse group of members who are interested in taking an active role in the committee, meaning that assignments will be made and telephonic presence at all meetings will be compulsory (where possible).

If you are interested in joining the committee, contact NFFE Assistant to the President Jai Atkins by email at jatkins@nffe.org. In your message, please include your name, local union number, agency of employment, email address (home and work), and phone number so we may contact you with further information.

The deadline for applying to the committee will be February 28th, 2013.

We are excited at the possibilities this committee holds for our union, and our government. Stay tuned for more information about the new committee as members are announced in the coming weeks.
