Last Friday, NFFE Local 2109 members welcomed Congressmen Paul Tonko (D-NY) and Scott Murphy (D-NY) to their facility, the Watervliet Arsenal, in Watervliet, New York.
Joined by NFFE National President Richard N. Brown, National Vice President Timothy Ostrowski and Assistant Directing Business Representative Bill Fenaughty, Local 2109 leadership engaged the Congressmen on the pressing issues facing arsenal employees, such as putting an end to downsizing, promoting mission diversification, and protecting valuable institutional knowledge.
“We told them (Tonko and Murphy) that preserving this integral part of America’s arsenal of defense is one of the union’s highest priorities,” said Brown. “Both Congressmen assured me they are fully committed to using the power of their offices to help the hardworking men and women of the Watervliet Arsenal.”
During their visit, the Congressmen also toured the facility with NFFE representatives and Watervliet Commander, Colonel Scott N. Fletcher. The Watervliet Arsenal, founded in 1813, is the oldest continuously active arsenal in the United States.
