NFFE continually supports efforts to maximize the full potential of our Union through expanding opportunities for all NFFE-IAM members. With the establishment of the Young Federal Leaders (YFL) initiative in 2012, NFFE has taken steps forward to address the need for secession planning and innovation within our Union and the increasing interest among the next generation of Union leaders. YFL seeks to educate and empower our young workers to lead our Union through equipping young members with adequate education, mentorship, and leadership opportunities.
NFFE is proud to announce that for the first time, we will be putting on a Young Federal Leaders training. The training will take place from June 14 – 17 at the IAM William W. Winpisinger Center for Education and Technology in Hollywood, Md. The training will inform young workers about the educational opportunities that NFFE National and the IAM offer, our re-launch of the mentorship program, and the countless ways young NFFE-IAM brothers and sisters can lead today. This is a historic and unique opportunity for both seasoned and new NFFE-IAM members from all over the country to exchange ideas and share their experiences. If you are interested in becoming a leader at your Local or in helping to develop the next generation of leaders, you do not want to miss this training!
Because the training will be at the Winpisinger Center, this means that the IAM will cover participants’ travel, housing, and meal expenses at no cost to participants. Space is limited and enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you would like to attend, you must submit the enrollment forms to YFL Director Kalia Vang either by email to kvang@nffe.org or fax to 202-898-1861 by Friday, May 9.
The training is not restricted to those who are 18-40 years old. We encourage our experienced brothers and sisters to register for the training and learn how to engage with young federal leaders as mentors. The training is open to all who are passionate about empowering and guiding the young workers of our Union. Particularly, we highly encourage young members to attend, especially those who are not Local Officers and are interested in becoming future leaders at their Locals.
Please submit both the YFL Class Registration Forms to YFL Director Kalia Vang by Friday, May 9, 2014. You may fax the completed forms to 202-898-1861 or email them to kvang@nffe.org. Again, please submit your forms as soon as possible to secure your spot.
