We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by the tragic death of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. Mr. Pretti was fatally shot by federal law enforcement officers in Minneapolis on January 24, 2026.
Alex was a dedicated caregiver, beloved by his family, friends, colleagues, and the patients whose lives he touched through his compassionate care. His commitment to caring for others and his work on behalf of veterans reflected the highest values of his profession.
At this painful time, our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Alex’s family, loved ones, and all who mourn his loss. We honor his memory and the life he lived in service to others.
