Washington, D.C. – Today, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM) rallied outside the U.S. Capitol Building alongside Senators Kaine (D-VA), Warner (D-VA), Cardin (D-MD) Van Hollen (D-MD), Hirono (D-HI), and leaders from fellow labor unions representing federal employees. The press conference was a call to action for the Senate to pass through unanimous consent the Saving the Civil Service Act, legislation that would safeguard the federal workforce from “Schedule F” and protect essential services for the American public.

“This bill and this vote are about preventing corruption – nothing more,” said NFFE Executive Director Steve Lenkart at the podium. “The American people deserve accountability and transparency from the Executive Branch and from their president. Those who serve their country in a civilian capacity – our professional civil service – deserve the ability to fight corruption from within and outside of the government.”

“It is no secret that the incoming administration is plotting to weaponize the civil service through Schedule F,” said NFFE National President Randy Erwin. “Congress must do everything in its power to safeguard our country from returning to the spoils system and letting political loyalists dismantle the federal workforce. We must pass the Saving the Civil Service Act to protect the nonpartisan professional workers that can best carry out the critical missions of federal agencies. Thank you to Senators Kaine, Warner, Cardin, Van Hollen, and Hirono for their leadership on this issue and their commitment to American democracy.”
