Washington, D.C. – Today, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM) is responding to President Trump’s baseless claim made last week from the Oval Office about federal employees that, “many of them don’t work at all – many of them never show up to work.”
“President Trump is once again lying to the American people about federal employees to pursue his corrupt political agenda,” said NFFE National President Randy Erwin. “The playbook of Project 2025 is simple – ruthlessly attack federal workers until they resign or are fired and replace them with those loyal not to their country or the constitution, but to President Trump.”
“The reality is that over half of federal employees work on site every day of the week. Outside of the ten percent of the workforce that is fully remote, federal employees are in the office for 80% of their working hours. Even among those that work remotely, the data shows that telework increases efficiency. These folks proudly show up for work wherever their duty stations are and they are dedicated to their missions.”
“The truth of the matter is that President Trump and Elon Musk do not understand the critical services that the federal workforce delivers every day for this country. Federal workers provide our veterans with healthcare, safeguard our national security, maintain our military readiness, protect our communities from wildfires and natural disasters, make sure our air, water, and food are safe, and so much more. These people are your friends and neighbors, all across the country.”
“If the attacks on federal workers were about saving money or increasing efficiency, the President would not be illegally firing federal workers to help pay for a 4.5 trillion dollar tax cut that only benefits the ultrawealthy. If Elon Musk wanted to root out waste, fraud, and abuse he would not be placing federal workers on paid leave while paying DOGE staffers at the highest rate on the GS scale.”
