Washington, D.C. – Today, at a press conference alongside Minority Leader Jeffries, Rep. Jared Golden, and union allies, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM) called on every member of the House of Representatives to sign on to the discharge petition which would bring the Protect America’s Workforce Act to the House Floor. The legislation would reverse President Trump’s Executive Order which denies one million federal workers of collective bargaining rights.

“Trump’s Executive Order, which aims to eliminate collective bargaining at 18 federal agencies, is the biggest assault on working people that we have ever seen in this country,” said NFFE National President Randy Erwin. “Collective bargaining in the federal sector is not a threat to national security. It never has been, and it never will be. We have more than 60 years of union representation among federal workers, under both Republicans and Democrats, that proves it.”

“Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle took immediate action to draft legislation to keep this egregious executive order from going into effect,” continued Erwin. “223 lawmakers have signed on to support this bill – a solid bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives. Now is the time to advance this critical legislation. We cannot afford to wait.”

“Our civil service has been stressed to an unprecedented degree and the critical services federal employees provide, and the American people rely on, are at risk as long as this assault on collective bargaining rights goes unchecked. I call on every House member to sign this discharge petition today – to reinforce an essential right of working Americans protected by the Constitution.”
