Last week, Vice President Kamala Harris and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack made a trip to San Bernardino, California to highlight the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to providing resources that will help protect the state from the ongoing wildfire crisis. Speaking at the U.S. Forest Service’s Del Rosa Fire Station, the Vice President announced that California will receive $600 million to assist the Forest Service’s efforts to recover from the severe fires of 2021 and to prepare for the upcoming fire season.

Wildland firefighters and Forest Service employees of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests (GMUG) started the New Year with good news, as the final tally of their recent election to name the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM) as their union representative was formally approved.

Last month, President Biden formally raised the pay of federal civilian employees via executive order, starting with the first full pay period of this year. Government-wide, employees received an increase of 2.2% in basic pay, in addition to an average 0.5% raise in locality pay for General Schedule employees.

Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC).

Last week, the Biden-Harris Administration published its “Government-wide Strategic Plan to Advance Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in the Federal Workforce.” The DEIA Plan provides guidance for implementing the Executive Order and illustrates steps that agencies can take to improve DEIA in their workplaces.
