The National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) is proud to announce that Erika Santa Cruz, Secretary-Treasurer of NFFE Local CE-10, the Western Region Detention Facility, will serve as the new National Business Representative/Organizer (BR/Organizer) for NFFE GEO locals located throughout the country. GEO locals will remain with their current BR/Organizers until they are notified of a transition to Santa Cruz. The timetables for those transitions are still to be determined.
On July 12, 2023, NFFE announced the vacancy for a BR/Organizer position and received many applications for the role. Over the past several weeks multiple candidates interviewed for the job. Santa Cruz was offered the position this week, and she was thrilled to accept the position.
“With Santa Cruz’s leadership and accomplishments as a representative at NFFE Local CE-10, I am very excited to see what she is going to be able to do for the members of this union,” said Randy Erwin, NFFE National President. “Erika is a strong advocate for the members at her local and workers throughout the country. She fought hard to keep the Western Region Detention Center open when its closure seemed imminent, and she continues to build membership and strengthen her local. I know Erika is going to be a tremendous addition to our team.”
Santa Cruz’s appointment to BR/Organizer comes on the heels of NFFE’s tremendous success organizing GEO locals throughout the country. She will begin her assignment as BR/Organizer on October 30, 2023. She will have the benefit of being mentored by current BR/Organizers who have serviced NFFE’s GEO locals in recent years. When Erika begins, she will spend the first few weeks getting to know each of the GEO locals, their leaders, and members.
“I am so honored that I get the opportunity to serve as a BR/Organizer for the GEO facilities that NFFE represents,” said Santa Cruz. “When NFFE became our Union it gave GEO employees a voice to negotiate wages, benefits, and safer working conditions. I can’t wait to help all my brothers and sisters and make NFFE an even stronger union.”
