Yesterday, NFFE National President Randy Erwin was appointed by U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh to serve as a member of the Federal Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and Health (FACOSH), an advisory group that helps plan, develop, and organize federal health and safety programs and initiatives.
The council is made up 16 members – 8 from labor and 8 from management – whose mission is to advise the Secretary of Labor and OSHA in an effort to reduce the number of worker injuries and illness in the federal government. Drawing from the diverse expertise of its members, the council seeks to develop well-rounded, practical solutions to many of the workplace safety and health issues impacting the federal workforce today.
“It’s an honor to be appointed to such a critical advisory council,” said Erwin. “Above all else, the safety and health of federal employees are essential preconditions for a strong and effective workforce. I look forward to sharing the concerns of our members with the council and making a difference for federal workers everywhere.”
FACOSH was established by Executive Order 11612 on July 26, 1971 to advise the Secretary of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration on policies and initiatives to improve occupational safety and health in the federal sector.
