Internal NFFE News

Today, NFFE honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Throughout our country’s history, very few Americans have had such a profound impact on the course of our nation and the values of our people like Dr. King. As a fierce activist for racial justice both in the United States and across the world, Dr. King is remembered for leading nonviolent campaigns and achieving incredible progress towards racial equity. As a union, we also recognize Dr. King as a true champion of the working class who fought for fair wages, safe working conditions, and security in retirement.
It is important to acknowledge that this holiday is not simply a day off from work, but rather a National Day of Service. I encourage you to take time today to learn how you can give back to your community and support those who are in need, in honor of Dr. King. This may include volunteering with local organizations that provide resources to vulnerable communities, underserved youth, or immigrants.
As we enter a new chapter with a change in leadership in the United States, it is critical that we defend the progress we have made as a nation in securing rights for all Americans. I encourage you to be engaged with policies and legislation that may affect voting rights, civil rights, and workers’ rights. This includes urging your representatives in your local community, your state, and in Congress to support initiatives that protect and expand on these critical rights.
NFFE is committed to promoting justice not only in the workplace, but also in our communities across the country. As Dr. King proved leading the civil rights movement, our power and influence is achieved through solidarity. Only united, together, can we build a better nation that is dedicated to the ideals of democracy and freedom.
