This week, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) celebrates law enforcement officers and honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while on duty. NFFE is proud to represent federal law enforcement officers across the country who risk their lives to uphold democracy and the rule of law.

“Thank you to all of the NFFE-IAM members serving as law enforcement officers,” said NFFE President Randy Erwin. “Your commitment to serving others and protecting communities is appreciated by everyone in this union. Law enforcement officers have never faced more uncertainty than they do today, and despite the rising dangers of your work, you continue to run toward others in need. NFFE stands by all of its law enforcement members, and we grieve the fallen with you during this special time of remembrance.”

In 2022, 224 federal, state, tribal, and local police officers lost their lives in the line of duty. In addition, 332 law enforcement officers from previous years were dedicated this past weekend during the 35th Annual Candlelight Vigil held on the National Mall. The names of these 556 heroes were engraved on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial here in Washington, D.C.

“Each one of these heroes will never be forgotten,” continued Erwin. “They paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the public and serving their country. Our thoughts and prayers are with their colleagues in law enforcement, as well as their families and loved ones during this difficult week.”
