Shutdown Averted for Now

Capitol

Today, the Senate passed a short-term funding bill to avert a government shutdown as the deadline drew near.

The continuing resolution, passed by the House earlier this week, extends funding through December 20, 2019. The President is expected to sign the measure tonight before the midnight deadline.

This stopgap bill will allow Congress more time to reach an agreement for each of the 12 spending bills necessary to fund the government.
