Since 1991, the Union Plus Scholarship Program has awarded more than $5.2 million to students of working families who want to begin or continue their post-secondary education. More than 3,600 families have benefited from the Union Plus commitment to higher education.

This year, several one-time cash awards ranging from $500 – $4,000 are available for the school year beginning in the Fall of 2023. Completed applications must be submitted before 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Eastern Standard Time on January 3. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered.

Current and retired members of NFFE, their spouses and their dependent children are eligible if the applicant, applicant’s spouse or parent has at least one year of continuous union membership. The one-year membership minimum must be satisfied by May 31 of the scholarship year. Be sure to select the IAM (Machinists) option as your union when filling out the application.

This is a competitive scholarship. Applicants are evaluated according to academic ability, social awareness, financial need and appreciation of labor. Scholarship applicants are judged by a committee of impartial post-secondary educators and will be notified of the award by May 31 if selected.
