Friday night, NFFE-IAM member John Lauer and fellow members of the Tatanka hotshot wildland firefighter crew joined NBC Nightly News to discuss their struggle for health benefits.
Despite the danger they face on and off the fire line, temporary seasonal wildland firefighters cannot purchase health insurance from their employer, the federal government. In recent weeks they have fought back with a campaign calling on the government to extend the health benefits they have earned.
Thus far, the campaign has gained over 120,000 signatures with an online petition and dozens of stories in the national and local media. If you are interested in joining the fight for wildland firefighter health benefits, sign and share this petition with your friends! They protect us. It’s our turn to protect them.
