Washington, D.C. – National Federation of Federal Employees National President Randy Erwin and Secretary-Treasurer Dave Stamey released the following statements in response to last night’s passing of U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings:

Randy Erwin, NFFE National President: “I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Rep. Elijah Cummings, a man with a tremendous legacy of service to his constituents in the 7th District of Maryland and to the American people. In his more than 20 years as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, he has simply been a champion of working people. Some of his most outstanding work was done as Chair of the Oversight and Reform Committee. As chairman, Cummings was a forceful and passionate supporter and defender of federal employees. Every time federal employees have needed a friend in Congress, Elijah Cummings was there. Federal employees lost a tremendous friend with the passing of Chairman Cummings.”

Dave Stamey, NFFE Secretary-Treasurer: “The passing of Congressman Cummings is a tremendous loss for working people in Maryland and across the country. He committed his life to public service and always fought for the rights of federal workers and worked to protect the integrity of the federal government. NFFE-IAM sends it deepest condolences to his wife, his family, and staff.”
