Out of a deep and talented field of applicants, NFFE this week is proud to announce that NFFE Local 2 member Amy Burns has been selected for the position of National Business Representative (BR). Effective July 29th Burns will service the Midwest region as depicted on the map below.
Burns brings a wealth of experience to the table through her work as founder and national coordinator of NFFE’s Young Federal Leaders (YFL) program and as Special Assistant to National President Dougan. Under her leadership, YFL grew from an idea on paper to a national program with a full slate of national officers, a strategic plan, and local chapters across the country. As Special Assistant to the President she played a critical role in the bargaining of two first contracts and handled a wide portfolio of representational cases. In both capacities Burns demonstrated a knack for leadership, follow-through, and relationship-building that will serve her well as she takes her talents directly to the Locals.
For Burns, the role of National Business Representative is a new opportunity to move the union forward:
“I am humbled by the opportunity to serve my Union brothers and sisters at the Local level,” said Burns. “I hope to adequately represent all of the smart, talented, and tenacious leaders within our union in this new capacity. I’m thrilled to get started.”
Effective October 7th, Burns will relocate to the Midwest representational territory (based in Louisville, KY), covering Locals in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska. As a new BR she will work closely with Assistant Directing Business Representative Jim Davis and other senior business representatives to deliver the best representation possible. For National President Dougan, there is no doubt that she will offer exactly that.
“We are very proud of what Amy has been able to accomplish in her time with us, and we look forward to plying her talents with the membership face to face,” Dougan said. “NFFE is a place that values young leaders taking an active role in our Union, and we’re thrilled to see what she makes of this opportunity.”
