NFFE applauds the VA’s decision regarding office space. The on-site integration of labor and management personnel is critical to the success of VA veterans care initiatives and workforce policies.

NFFE urges Congress to renew the COVID leave provisions provided by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) passed last year and expand the provisions to cover all federal workers retroactively

During the last congress, NFFE formulated a strategy early on with House and Senate supporters that included introducing matching language in both chambers, placing “First Responder” in the act title, seeking bipartisan original cosponsors, and seeking the blessings of respective leaderships.

After the election, transition teams are formed to work with the outgoing administration to facilitate a transfer of power and institutional knowledge.  NFFE engaged with the Biden transition teams as a leader representing federal employees on several independent but connected fronts.

Many federal employees were subjected to an involuntary deferral of payroll tax withholding (OASDI) during the last quarter of 2020.  The effect of this action, as ordered by former President Trump, is a higher tax bill for those employees for calendar year 2021.

Congress sent an omnibus spending bill to fund the government through fiscal year 2021 that included several provisions that will benefit the federal workforce.

The 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed both chambers with large majorities, enough to defeat the promised veto by the president.

There is a lot of uncertainty going into the last few weeks of the 116th Congress of the United States but one issue very clear to federal employees and their families is that workers cannot afford a pay freeze for 2021.

On October 5, 2020, the Convention dealt with a limited agenda, focusing on business necessary for the conduct of the NFFE National Officer Elections. The primary business conducted when the balance of the Convention is held will be the consideration of resolutions and proposed amendments to the NFFE Bylaws.
