Randy Erwin, National President of the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) released the following statement regarding the nominations by President Joseph R. Biden for Susan Tsui Grundmann to the Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA) and for Kurt Rumsfeld to General Counsel of the FLRA.

NFFE, joined by fellow labor unions as part of the Federal Workers Alliance (FWA), sent a letter to President Biden requesting urgent action to remove Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA) Member James T. Abbot and proceed with the nomination of a replacement to accompany the renomination of Ernest W. DuBester as Chairman.

NFFE is advocating for President Biden to further increase pay for all wildland firefighters, hire at least 10,000 new firefighters over the next decade, and allot more resources to support a better work-life balance for federal firefighters.

Rep. Derek Kilmer (D-WA) and Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) have introduced the Federal Retirement Fairness Act. The bill will allow former seasonal and temporary federal employees the option to ‘buy-back’ retirement contributions to retire on time.

Today, President Joe Biden held a briefing with the governors from Western states to address low salaries for federal wildland firefighters and the impact of the growing threat of wildfires across the nation.

Today, the Biden-Harris Administration released the White House budget proposal for fiscal year 2022 which included general increases for discretionary spending on critical programs and federal agencies.

The bill gives VA employees covered under Title 38 authority the right to negotiate over working conditions, patent safety, proper staffing and assignments, special compensation for recruitment and retention, and protection against retaliation for reporting improper care or conditions at the VA.

Secretary Vilsack agreed (w/NFFE's request), sharing his concern for the unfair tax burden placed upon these employees, and directed the NFC to reissue notices allowing employees until January 3, 2022, to repay the taxes without penalty or interest.

The 114-page NAPA report included a number of recommendations regarding OPM authority and policies, but it was most condemning of the OPM-GSA merger as not having any legitimate impact on solving the problems or challenges associated with strategic human capital management and performance.

Today, NFFE applauds U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) for introducing the Federal Adjustment of Income Rates (FAIR) Act to provide for a 3.2% pay increase for federal workers next year. The Senate version of the FAIR Act matches the House version introduced by U.S. Representative Gerry Connolly (D-VA) in January.
